Salamu Alaykum! Welcome to the Ramadan countdown!

1) Allah’s revelations have been revealed during Ramadan:

‘The Suhuf (Tablets) of Ibrahim (Abraham) were revealed during the first night of Ramadan. The Taurat (Torah) was revealed during the sixth night of Ramadan. The Injeel (Gospel) was revealed during the thirteenth night of Ramadan. The Zabur (Psalms of David) were revealed on the eighteenth of Ramadan. And Allah revealed the Qur’an on the twenty-fourth night of Ramadan.’”
(Hadiths: Ahmad 4:107 and Musnad #177025).

2) Not All Muslim’s Fast During Ramadan

Not all Muslims are obligated to fast during Ramadan. Individuals such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those who are ill are exempt from fasting. Instead, they have the option to either make up the missed fasts at a later time or provide a meal per day to those in need. Children may engage in mock half-day fasts as a way to participate in the spirit of Ramadan while still enjoying delicious meals. It's important to understand that Ramadan is a period of spiritual reflection and should not impose undue hardship on those who are unable to fast. Many Muslims eagerly anticipate this time of year, and children especially look forward to being able to join in the fasting experience when they are older.

3) Devils Are Locked Up In Ramadan

The concept of devils being locked up during Ramadan is derived from various Hadiths (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad). One such Hadith can be found in Sahih al-Bukhari, a widely respected collection of Hadith:

Narrated by Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1899)

This Hadith emphasizes the special significance of Ramadan, during which the influence of evil forces is believed to be weakened, allowing Muslims to focus more on spiritual growth and worship.

4) Ramadan Is A Month On The Islamic Calendar! Just like April is On The Gregorian Calendar!

Ramadan is a month on the Islamic lunar calendar. It is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims worldwide. During Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting from dawn until sunset as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. This month holds significant religious and spiritual importance, as it commemorates the revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The exact start date of Ramadan varies each year because the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, which is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar commonly used in the West. Therefore, the beginning of Ramadan shifts earlier by about 10-12 days each year in relation to the Gregorian calendar.
