Now, Here is my summary on the life of Yusuf Alayhis Salam:
Early Life and Trials
Yusuf was the beloved son of Yaqub (Jacob), a prophet as well. Yusuf had eleven brothers, but he was especially dear to his father, which sparked jealousy among his brothers. Yusuf had a dream where eleven stars and the sun and the moon were prostrating to him. He narrated this dream to his father, who interpreted it to mean that Yusuf would rise to a position of great authority and respect. Yaqub warned Yusuf not to share his dream with his brothers, fearing their jealousy.
"Behold! Joseph said to his father: 'O my father! I did see eleven stars and the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrate themselves to me.'"
(Quran 12:4)
Despite the caution, the brothers plotted against Yusuf, deciding to throw him into a well to get rid of him, deceiving their father by saying that a wolf had eaten him. They brought back his shirt with false blood to prove their claim.
Yusuf in Egypt
Yusuf was rescued from the well by a caravan and sold as a slave in Egypt. There, the chief minister, referred to as Al-Aziz, bought him, sensing his potential and integrity. Yusuf grew up in their house with honor and respect due to his intelligence and character. The Quran recounts how the wife of Al-Aziz attempted to seduce Yusuf, but he resisted, seeking refuge in Allah’s guidance.
"And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him. She closed the doors and said, 'Come, you.' He said, '[I seek] the refuge of Allah. Indeed, he is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed.'"
(Quran 12:23)
Despite his innocence, when the scandal became public, Yusuf was imprisoned to avoid disgrace upon the minister's household, illustrating the trial of false accusation and maintaining dignity in adversity.
Lessons in the Prison
In prison, Yusuf met two men who had dreams that they wished to be interpreted. Yusuf first preached about Allah’s oneness, then interpreted their dreams, predicting one would be executed and the other would serve the king. His predictions came true, but despite asking the released prisoner to mention him to the king, Yusuf was forgotten and remained in prison for several more years — a lesson in reliance on God over humans.
"And he said to the one whom he knew would be saved, 'Mention me before your lord.' But Satan made him forget the mention [to] his lord, and [thus] Joseph remained in prison several years."
(Quran 12:42)
Rise to Power
Eventually, the king of Egypt dreamt of seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean ones and seven green ears of corn and others withered. The former prisoner then remembered Yusuf, who was called upon to interpret the dream. Yusuf explained it predicted seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. Impressed, the king made Yusuf his chief minister, entrusting him with the task of storing and managing the harvest during the years of plenty to prepare for the famine.
"So the king said, 'Bring him to me; I will appoint him exclusively for myself.' And when he spoke to him, he said, 'Indeed, you are today established in position and trusted.'"
(Quran 12:54)
Reunion and Forgiveness
During the famine, Yusuf's brothers came to Egypt seeking food, not recognizing Yusuf. After a series of events where Yusuf tested his brothers’ integrity and unity, he eventually revealed his identity. This reunion teaches profound lessons in forgiveness and the divine recompense for steadfast faith.
"He said, 'No blame will there be upon you today. Allah will forgive you; and He is the most merciful of the merciful.'"
(Quran 12:92)
Conclusion and Moral Lessons
Yusuf's life is a testament to the virtues of patience, faith in Allah’s wisdom, and forgiveness. His story illustrates that true success comes not from power or position, but from steadfastness in faith and integrity. The Quran sums up the essence of Yusuf's story as a lesson for inquirers:
"Certainly were there in Joseph and his brothers signs for those who ask."
(Quran 12:7)
The narrative of Prophet Yusuf offers countless lessons — on handling jealousy, resisting temptation, the importance of patience during trials, the virtue of forgiveness, and the ultimate triumph of righteousness.
